From crumbling historic buildings to abandoned memorial halls, mansions and churches, these sites hold the stories of the region’s industrial and civic past. Drawing on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register, as well as perspectives from the UK Government, local councils, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), heritage experts and local communities, the series explores the people, decisions and competing priorities shaping the future of the region’s architectural heritage.

Over five consecutive days, each feature will focus on a different heritage site and the issues surrounding its preservation, restoration and future use.
